Peptide Reconstitution: Best Practices for Accurate Dosing

Reconstitution seems simple — add liquid, swirl, done. In practice, small technique errors compound into significant dosing inaccuracy. This protocol keeps your concentrations accurate and your peptide intact.

Choose the right diluent

Bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol) is the standard for most research peptides because it inhibits bacterial growth across multiple withdrawals. Some compounds require sterile water, acetic acid solution, or specific buffers — always check the product documentation first.

Add solvent gently

Direct the stream against the vial wall, never directly onto the lyophilized cake. Let the solvent run down and dissolve the peptide gently. Vigorous shaking creates foam and can shear or aggregate delicate sequences — swirl slowly instead.

Calculate your concentration first

Decide your target concentration before adding solvent. For a 10mg vial, adding 2mL of bacteriostatic water yields 5mg/mL. Use our reconstitution calculator to plan volumes so you never guess at the bench.

Label and date everything

Mark the vial with the reconstitution date, diluent, and final concentration. Most reconstituted peptides are stable at 2–8°C for a limited window — an unlabeled vial is an unusable vial.
